Masen in brief

Masen is the group responsible for leading renewable energy initiatives in Morocco. To accelerate the national energy transition, Masen plays a key role as a driving force and facilitator for the development of private investments in renewable energy (RE) in general. Masen is also the focal point for Morocco’s Green Hydrogen initiative.

The development programs for electrical projects led by Masen aim to add at least 6,000 MW of clean electricity production capacity between 2016 and 2030. This contributes to the national goal of reaching an energy mix by 2030, in which at least 52% of the installed capacity is from renewable sources.

Masen has built an innovative model that prioritizes an integrated approach, enabling the emergence of a renewable energy sector that offers Morocco promising prospects for economic growth and social development.

In addition to large-scale electricity production, Masen seeks to catalyze the development of a competitive economic fabric. By bringing together all stakeholders involved in electric power project development, Masen aims to promote initiatives that benefit the sector by ensuring their complementarity.

Masen also promotes applied R&D, aimed at improving the performance of renewable energy technologies to achieve increasingly competitive energy. Masen also supports the development of national industrial sectors in the RE field. The success of this integrated industrial development lies in its ability to train qualified human resources. Therefore, Masen supports education and skill development that are in line with market needs.

This unique multidimensional approach contributes to the emergence of a robust renewable energy ecosystem that fosters innovation and the development of sustainable solutions tailored to the country’s challenges.

Underlying this integrated approach, Masen’s sustainable territorial development strategy contributes to territorial equity and the sustainable growth of regions hosting the projects.

Finally, a constant focus on environmental protection and reducing greenhouse gas emissions characterizes Masen’s entire approach.

Legal and regulatory framework

Meeting the challenge of renewable energy development requires an appropriate legal and regulatory environment in keeping with the Kingdom’s high ambitions.

The national legal framework has been modernized and extended to redistribute the roles of the various players in the sector.

Its readjustment reflects the development of all the institutional, economic, technological and managerial parameters.
